If you're lucky enough to be in the mountains, you are lucky enough.

When something bad happens, you have three choices: let it define you, let it destroy you, or let it strengthen you.

Karaul!

I don't know any English words to express it better:)

HIGH PRESSURE WITH DRY NORTH TO EAST FLOW WILL CAUSE TEMPERATURES
TO HEAT UP TO OVER 100 DEGREES FOR THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND LOWER
FOOTHILL LOCATIONS FOR MOST OF THIS WEEK. EACH DAY TEMPERATURES
WILL WARM A LITTLE AND DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO COULD SEE ITS FIRST 100
DEGREE DAY OF HEAT FOR THE SEASON ON WEDNESDAY...AND AROUND 105
DEGREES FOR THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. REDDING WILL SEE
TEMPERATURES EXCEEDING 105 DEGREES. IN THE MOUNTAINS TEMPERATURES
WILL WARM WELL INTO THE 80S AND 90S WITH SOME OF THE WARMER
LOCATIONS TOPPING 100 DEGREES.

The weather forecast is for 107F in canyons/after Foresthill. I had never run in above 100. Ouch! Yikes!

I think I am in for a new problem in a 100 miler:) I am a Russian Bear, not a desert camel!

Kinda makes it interesting...

I think it is supposed to get up to almost 70 here on Saturday. I'll be thinking of you as it will probably only be that cool at the start and during the evening.

hey russian bear,

do you know the old russian joke about the guys stranded and walking in the dessert. one guy is carrying a car door with him on the trek...after awhile, the one guy says to the other..."why in the hell are you carrying that car door? it must weigh a ton"...the other guy says, "so, at the perferct moment, when i need it most, i can sit next to the door, roll down the window, and feel the cool breeze." in is pretty funny in russki yazik :)

anyway, when it gets a little hot this weekend, think of that corny joke and curse me for putting in your head. you are going to be fine :)

Yes, the oven will be turned on this weekend.

You are just going to have to run faster creating a bigger breeze and making it feel cooler :') (Kyly told me this.)

I'm concerned about the heat for my 80K this weekend as well, and the prediction is 10 degrees cooler than what you listed. We're going to have fun!

Oh man that's hot! Hopefully they'll have ice at the aid stations.

Shed some of that fur fast (:

This reminded me of a Grateful Dead song

Fire on the Mountain –
“Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door
Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor
Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core.
There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town
Takes a whole pail of water just to cool him down.

Fire! Fire on the mountain!

Almost ablaze still you don't feel the heat
It takes all you got just to stay on the beat.
You say it's a livin', we all gotta eat
But you're here alone, there's no one to compete.
If Mercy's a bus'ness, I wish it for you
More than just ashes when your dreams come true.

Fire! Fire on the mountain!”

Amazing blog!!......Good Luck!! Also does anyone have any advice for a ultra running noobie!!

let me tell you this 'desert camel' probably couldn't that kinda heat as well...so you're in for a fair game I think. LOL

with the weather around, you can never tell how fast it changes too.

Wow. And what's the temperature going to be up at the higher altitudes. Should be a good challenge :) Good luck and have fun!

Hey Olga, good luck, have fun, drink up and be nice to your pacers ;-) perhaps some cooling clouds will roll in with a light rain (fingers x'ed)

I don't know what that is in Celcius... but I think over 100 is a fever, right? So... making a quick conversion in my head... OH MY GOD!

Being a Canadian, I sympathize with your "bear not camel" comparison.

Now that I have said that... If anyone can do this -- you can!

Yikes! is all I can say to that. I don't envy you!

I'm prepared to suffer:) Probably right behind you as I follow you into those canyons.
